Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas began his career with Chelsea in an impressive fashion. This has now been confirmed by the Spanish midfielder playing an important role in the club’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in the League Cup final.
After securing his first trophy with Chelsea, Fabregas spoke about the hunger to go on and win more titles in the future. The 27-year-old has already matched the total number of trophies that he won at Arsenal in his eight-year spell. Chelsea are still in contention for two more trophies before the end of the season. Fabregas says that they will use this title success as motivation going forward.
It was the perfect day for the blues after they also witnessed their Premier League contenders Manchester City lose against Liverpool, a few hours before kick-off. As a result, their advantage in the league over City remains at five points, but Chelsea have a game in hand.
Tottenham had more of the ball, but Chelsea appeared to be in control throughout the encounter. They scored with the first shot in the match after John Terry converted just before half-time. Diego Costa had a deflected effort go into the net and this provided the blues with a cushion in the final minutes.
“It’s always great to have the winning feeling. It’s the first trophy for me at Chelsea so I’m very happy. There were maybe five or 10 minutes in the first half when they were better than us but overall we were in control. It seems like it’s going the right way. We have a very young team which is very talented. At difficult moments we can compete; we have a good mix of experienced players and young players, but generally we are all around 25, 26 or 27,” said Fabregas at the Wembley.
