AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas paid tribute to the fans for their influence in the collapse of the controversial European Super League earlier this week.
12 major clubs in European football decided to form a breakaway league called the European Super League and with the help of football fans and other stakeholders, the idea was defeated.
Six English clubs joined three clubs each from the Italian Serie A and the Spanish La Liga in forming the European Super League. The English teams in the Super League were Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Three of the teams were from London (Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur), while two came from the city of Manchester (Manchester United and Manchester City). The other team was from the city of Liverpool.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid made up the three La Liga teams, while the three Italian Serie A clubs were AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan.
Cesc Fabregas played for three of the 12 Super League teams. The Spanish international came through the ranks at Barcelona and also played for the English duo of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Arsenal and Chelsea both pulled out of the European Super League on Tuesday night. The Gunners released an apologetic statement to that effect and the news was celebrated by football fans worldwide including Cesc Fabregas.
According to Cesc Fabregas via his official Twitter account, football is nothing without the fans.
